Literacy Texas Presents
New Directors Training

Literacy Texas provides New Director's Training for directors who have been on the job for three years or less. Nonprofit board members are also encouraged to participate in this training.

The goal of the training is to help organizations, executive directors, and board members make transitions with limited loss of productivity. Well-qualified presenters work to build the confidence of participants with instruction and lessons learned from years of personal experience. An important aspect of the training is the opportunity for executive directors and board members to ask their own questions of experienced Literacy Texas board members. Topics covered in the training include:

  1. Personnel Practices (employees & volunteers)
  2. Nonprofit Legal Issues
  3. Volunteer Recruitment/Appreciation
  4. Budgeting & Financial Matters
  5. Working with Faith-based Organizations
  6. Advocacy
  7. Board Governance
  8. Data, Assessments & Accountability
  9. Strategic Planning
  10. Fund Development

In 2009, the New Directors Training was a strand at the Literacy Texas Conference.
